Kenny Knoxville’s latest single “Now” from Daniel Degree’s “Olden Days Pt. 2” features a nostalgic sample for a soulful track and addresses MANKIND’s immediate need for God’s sovereign intervention especially in our most depressing times. Inspired by the story of the prophet Elijah, the song starts with the prophet hiding in a cave fleeing from Jezebel, and transistions to the moment when he ridicules King Ahab’s wizards in a stand-off to prove to the wicked king and his false prophets that only The Most High YHWH has the power to reign fire from heaven. The hope is that listeners everywhere will be encouraged to fight for the Lord’s army, not in an unhealthy
fear for what the enemy can do, but in a healthy fear of what the Lord will and has done. If Elijah, known for at least 8 recorded biblical miracles, including parting the Jordan river, raining fire from heaven, and raising the dead could be so CLOSE to God, yet still so depressed that he asked God to take his life, then surely none on earth should be ashamed of the spirit of depression many of us wrestle with but never speak of. Hope and comfort remains in Jesus Christ alone, provided by the RUACH (Holy Spirit) sent after the Father raise His only Begotten Son from the dead. Amen and amen.
