Shiwan -Project 27 review

This 17 track lp has an artistic cinematic vibe, storytelling right from the first two tracks, “Harmonies Are Colors” is a poetic intro into “Underground Prince” a song that sounds like a bunch of songs detailing a youth being shot due to street beef. “High Life” has a bounce and ill flow, “I need some money” the chase and conflict between God and chasing money. “316” good feeling r&b trap flip about grinding for Jesus. “Jekyll’s Talking (feat. Ty Young)” the voice of the doubts and insecurities that tries to speak in our mind and then a good brother in the Lord speaks words of encouragement, dope. “Old Thing Back (feat. Zabbai)” can’t let the old ways, the old man back, “I don’t got time for that old thing back”, this song has swing. “Bonkers (lights out) feat Parris Chariz” has a groove similar to God’s Plan, Parris kills it and the hook is catchy. “Spazz” is just that, a lyrical banger, one of my favorites, heat! “Rice & Oxtail” surrounded by the block life, seeing all the craziness, but gotta keep it moving. “In Time (Joyride)” a slow cook r&b wavy track to ride to. “The Wonder Years” continues the rhythm and blues smooth lyrics, flows heavy. “Prodigal Kicks” a bieber/neo-esque pop rhythm, dope. “Summer (Reign)” continues the trap soul move. “Nu Era (feat. Phil J)” blessed following Gods will, chasing the dream anthem. “Act Right (feat. L3xdivine)” rhymes bounce into the hook “can you act right, can you look right, can you be right, can you see right”. “Life Ain’t Gibberish (feat. Dwight Junior)” I thought the flow and groove was similar to Kanye and Shiwan says something about that, but he speaks about some mission work, delivering the gospel. “Abba (28th)” reminiscing about the “what ifs” in Shiwan’s life happened different. This last song closes out on the same story telling mode weaved through out the many styles of music. “Project 27” is a very ambitious long play, with multiple songs inside one song, there is a lot to ride and listen to. This album is certified straight ministry heat, a must listen.
