Intellect-Polished Arrows album review

 Boom bap at its finest, “Polished Arrows” by Ohio’s own Intellect is super dope with a cape on. This 10 song banger gives glory to God over head snapping rhythms and flows that are nostalgic but fresh in 2020. Countdown 3,2,1, “Blast Off” feat. Philip Anthony sets us off on a lyrical journey. Title track “Polished Arrows” feat. Philip Anthony takes a Hawkeye truth shot at gangsta rap, the world, and fake news media. “First Things First” sonic strings and horns sound like a movie soundtrack for preaching the gospel, putting the first thing first , salvation in Christ. “Droppin’ Gems” feat. ProCyse and DJ Sean P, is a hard, neck moving groove, shining with lyrical gems and on point cuts, sounds like a classic. “Bringing It Back” feat Jusjames, keeps the fire beats and rhymes flowing, bringing the truth back. “Back Again” feat. DaLomonze is a jazz horn laden track with a buttery smooth hook over a thumping kick snare and dancing high hat that allows Intellect to describe the relationship aspect of returning to God from pride and sin. “On That Vibe” reminds me of a showdown at sundown, if you’re about that life, “on that vibe, better switch sides.” So many bangers on “Polished Arrows”, Intellect curated some great beats. The album finishes with “The Remedy feat. Philip Anthony”, “All Day”, and bonus track “Got It Good feat. DJ Sean P.” I’ve been riding around with this album on repeat, it’s a must have for the collection. Intellect also has nice back catalog of releases to check out.
