Eshon Burgundy – Joppa album review

Joppa; meaning “beauty, beautiful”, a place of many bible stories, such as Jonah running to Joppa from God, it’s also recorded in the books of Joshua, Ezra, 2 Chronicles, and Peter’s roof top vision in Acts. It has also been a city of turmoil and conflict, being over taken many times through out its history. What does this have to do with Eshon’s newest Nftry release? Everything! The album exhibits the beautiful place of being a Child of God filled with all the honest inner/external conflicts verbally painted over s museum of rhythms. The beat selection alone is fantastic, ranging from soulfully chilling, hard hitting drum patterns, deep 808s, lo-fi warp, jazz inspirations and warm textures. Eshon lyrically doesn’t disappoint, “Joppa” is another strong release for the catalog. Bombay displays relationship honesty about marriage and lust, racial tension issues, inner wrestlings of faith, boasting about our amazing God, being a good dad…. clips and clips of rhymes, there’s a lot to digest, replay value is high. I really like the slow flow grunt of “Glitchy”, “I Felt That” feat Derek Minor is another hard banger, “Sinful Remission” is a melodic and truthful. Eshon’s “Joppa” is a must get, download, and ride out to this album…..certified straight ministry heat!
