Hulvey – Prelude E.p. Review

Newest member signed to Reach Records, Hulvey, bubbled up and quickly dropped the e.p. “Prelude” to give everyone a sample of what’s to come. Not a bar heavy emcee, Hulvey’s style is more creative energy, swag, and confidence, he lets it be known on “Underdog Freestyle”. The bounce and catchy hook of “Mad Today” will have you nodding and singing every time the hook comes around. It’s the next two songs on the e.p. that Hulvey really shines,  “Roller Coastin” attacks deeper content, the balance of success, ego, purpose and faith, Hulvey has to stay focused. On the dreamy pop-inspired “Higher” Hulvey proclaims his destiny is to rise as Zach Paradis sings “ain’t nobody gonna bring me down cuz I ain’t afraid”, I think this is my favorite on the e.p. “Ready or Not” has that turnt jump up rhythm that’s made famous by lacrae and the 116. “Prelude” accomplishes its purpose of giving the listener just enough to want to hear more. Hulvey fits right into the Reach records roster, displaying elements of his predecessors musical stylings with stand out moments of his own. It’s these moments that showcase the potential of Hulvey’s albums to come and stamps “Prelude” straight ministry heat!
