New Name Same Mission is the fourth album by Justin Martyr aka Justin-Credible, a name change that Justin explains in the album title song “NNSM” as a conversion from promoting self to promoting Christ.
As a Martyr, Justin is showing his weakness and reliance on Jesus Christ, as well as aligning himself as someone who would die for what he believes. Deep theology coupled with an equally deep personal love for the King of kings, and spreading His Gospel is the mission creatively expressed on this deluxe release. Various musical styles blend throughout the album; “Rain Down” has a gospel choir over trap rhythms, “NNSM” has a jazz/soul smooth vibe, “I Can Make It” incorporates a live band with drop step hip-hop beats flavored with gospel and reggae switch-ups. This is just three songs off Justin Martyr’s solid release, but some of the real shining moments come in the captivating teaching laced throughout the album.
After the well-produced song “White Man’s Religion?” Justin launches into “White Man’s Religion? (A Conversation) where he debunks the lie that Christianity is a white man’s religion, with historical/ biblical facts truthfully explained and thoughtfully expressed. He does similar work on the skits “Modern Religion” and “Theology 101”, crafting well-executed conversations about false spiritual perceptions while presenting the opportunity for the listener to receive true salvation in Christ. Justin’s varied musical influences continue throughout the rest of the album; r&b inspired “L.Y.D. feat. Solo”, dark trap, bass-heavy “C.H.E.S.S. feat. Regenerit”, slow flow boom-bap banger “Cold Streets feat. Thre” and verbal assault posse cut “NNSM Cypher feat. Regenerit, A.I. the Anomaly, Paul Writes, Daarinah, C.W. Allen, L3XDIVINE, Chubbs the Dreamer, D.T.S., Oscar Urbina, Aasha Marie & Point Ash.” That’s not all the tracks on “N.N.S.M. the deluxe version”, a total of 17 bangers complete this project, stamping it Straight Heat Ministry Heat!!!
