Lecrae – Restoration album review

“Making it” ain’t always what it seems to be, being at the top of the game means there’s always some one or something waiting to pull you down, at that level you need “Restoration.” Lecrae cries out to God, asking Him to use all the hurt and pain for growth on “Restore Me”. The Mary Mary classic shackles on my feet gets a remake on the bouncy bass rhythm of “Set Me Free”, can’t put me back up in them streets yeah yeah! Smooth guitar, fluttering flute, cloud like synths, dope flow cadence, has me floating on “Wheels Up” with the seat back.

Hypnotic bells swirl as 808s bubble under the hard fuzz box vocal drip of “Over the Top” for real. Southern soul funk horns with pianos roll over drums as Lecrae pulls apart the family roots and influences trying to figure out who he is supposed to be “Self Discovery”. A heavenly choir ushers into the heart felt hook of “Deep End”, Lecrae goes off wrestling with the holy ghost about issues that affect him. The ways of the world pull on us, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, the pride of life, cause us to “Drown” and like John Legend on the hook you have to call out to the savior to save you from going under. Track “Saturday Night” asks if chasing the high life like a numb roller coaster is the measure of success but its time to wake up! And thank God for another day alive, a new day in His grace, you get to live forgiven it’s “Sunday Morning”.

The hard beats bang, and 808s drive on the motivational, get it out the mud, come to far to give up, and push past the haters rhymes of “Keep Going”. The joy of new life spills off the upbeat melodic piano of “Zombie” ; Lecrae uses this track to testify how Christ called him from the dark into light. R&b velvet vocals ride over guitar, piano, claps, percs and double time high hats on the ride for life love song “Still”. Restoration closes out strong with Lecrae having an anointed truth fueled spazz out moment, stating plainly that nothing in this world can fulfill or fix us, even at our highest most successful moment we all fall short of the Glory of God, we need him, we are “Only Human”. This is my favorite song on this album, this song is a banger, the whole project is fire, check it out, Lecrae “Restoration” is certified straight ministry heat!
